I hunted Benton County on friday, had to dodge some thunderboomers in the truck for a big part of the morning. I made it back to the truck before the hail hit!!! Then, from 10am to 1pm, I slugged thru the mud, and high water, trying to out manuever 2 big strutters, that had 2 hens that kept leading them away!!! I finally just ran out of time, had to call it quits. I was a wet, muddy mess, to say the least!!!
After I got stuff dried out the best I could, I headed for the Inlaws, to hunt Randolph County, on Saturday am. Our first setup didn't work out at all, not hearing any gobbles, or see any birds. So, we started sneaking to another clearing, near a stand of white oaks. We were almost there, when the crows made one gobble!!! 10 minutes later, he strutted into a 20yd shootin lane!!! My heaviest bird ever, at 25lbs, 6 oz. on the Berkley digital fish scales!!! 11 5/8" beard, 1 1/8" spurs. The Father in Law told me to have at him, so I did!!! Sure felt good to sleep in on Sunday!!!
