I leave Saturday for another longbow Antelope quest in far northwest South Dakota.. This year the weather is hot, dry and perfect for the goats needing to come in to water.
I built this thrifty 2D broadhead target (no cost as I had all materials) so I could practice shooting out in the wide open to get ready for country with NO trees. This group was at 23 yards which is about as far as I can see to pick a spot. Farther than that and I would have to gap which I never have been able to do... I want them at ten steps if everything goes perfect.. LOL

John, it would take me 50 shots to shoot a group that tight at that distance! Good luck and don't forget to drink some of that water yourself.

I need to hook up with you to get the shafts from the St Jude Auction sometime. I forgot I had bid on them until Doug asked me about them.

I should have added thank you all for the well wishes... I should stay calm and do it right when it matters... What I need is the weather man to work with me on this trip.. 85 plus and dry is all I need as this ranch if FULL of Antelope and Mule Deer... I need them thirsty..! LOL
It will be good to get away from home and the cell phone for a week after working about everyday this summer. I'm camping (rare for me) on this trip and am looking forward to seeing the stars with the nearest large town (big enough for a Supercenter) more than 90 miles away... The empty rolling plains are calling me... After hunting I am going to hang out a day or two and help ranch just for fun. I grew up cow/calf farming and miss this lifestyle.
I'll post a thread when I get home sometime on or after Labor day...

I wanna go! I wanna go!!...lol
Good hunting, good luck and God bless!!

Rain and wind storms ended my Antelope 2010 quest... Weather is weather and hunting goats in thunderstorms is tough..! The ranch owner felt terrible even though I kept telling him he cannot control the weather. I was not really upset. This is bowhunting and things need to work out. Rain is rain and who knew what the weather would do...? He invited me back again for next to nothing so I can't not go next year. August of 2011 I will try again..!
The first half day was hot n dry.

Then the storms started Sunday afternoon...

Sorry to hear about the weather problems, John. But, like you indicated, that's the way it goes sometimes. A day spent bowhunting is still better than a day not bowhunting.
