View Full Version : Where are the kills?

I can't believe we don't have any bowseason kills listed. Todd Goodman stepped up right away and killed two deer the first few weeks. He had a buck dead before I got back to Missouri. Just days later he called me hollering about number two deer down. I just got word from my neighbor that Mike Clark (our famous auctioneer) shot a great buck. Should score in the 150's from what I hear. I also heard if you run across him, he has a 8x10 glossy photo of it. There has been a great amount of time and some money put into this website. Lets get out and use it. If nothing else, just drop a note and give us your hardship stories.

I havent learned to post a picture so heres an attachment. Every website I belong to it is different. Any ways he was shot today at 7 am it is a 9 point with a 17.5 inch spread. I shot him at under 10 yards. He went about 100 yards before piling up. The funny part is I went out today and I felt like crap, stomach flu. But I shoved a 1/2 roll of TP in my pocket and went. I was fine till I started trying to throw up and had to fight it back so I was going to go home. I got my gear on and climed down the ladder. I looked to the next hil farther down the trail and seen a deer heading to me. I got back in the stand, took off my pack and got an arrow nocked and here he come up the hill right to me. I shot him with a Fred Bear Grizzley Recurve at 50 lbs with a snuffer head and one of Tims homemade arrows. My biggest traditional harvest to date.

Way to go Rob. I'm going to have to try the getting out of the tree technique. I haven't seen much but we had two brothers take a nice 8 and 10 pt bucks on our place during the youth season. First bucks for each.
Darren did you take the doe off the ground? I've been giving it a try. Had a doe at 4 yards a couple of days ago but she didn't enter my shooting lane.

Rob, that certainly was some perseverance on your part. Looks like it paid off, too. Good job on a nice trophy!
Yeah, Mike, I killed Skippy from the ground but it was more of a spot-and-stalk situation than lying in wait. I was out doing a scouting mission in a thicket that borders our lower field when I jumped up Skippy and her sister bedded down in some brush. Sis went deeper into the woods and Skip ran to the edge of the field and stopped. So I hunkered down, grabbed an arrow and belly crawled up to suitable shooting position. After about 5 minutes, Skippy came back looking for her sister and stopped broadside to me at about 10 yards. Now she resides in my freezer (and my belly).
Now for the ghillie suit commercial: I took off last week and hunted strictly from the ground wearing my ghillie suit. I had deer as close as 5 yards looking right at me and they just don't pay you any attention. I even got caught moving at that distance and they never spooked. If the wind is in your face, you are as good as invisible to whitetails.

Congrats all, Steve Bostic took a yearling from his ground blind.
Stephen Bostic Took a nice 10 pointer.
Picture and stories guys?
Dan Novotny took a 9 pt .
Have I told everyone I don't like the 4 pt. rule. Had a fork horn at 6 feet while standing with my ghillie suit. Drew on him and let down. He walked by 4 feet from the end of my arrow, never did spook.

Ron, Thanks for posting that pic for me. Somebody has to teach me how to do that.
Details are as follows: 25 yard shot which is a loooong way for me, Magnus broadhead on a cedar arrow, Yellowstone longbow and a Cedar Creek Taxidermy hat

Man, today was fun. Opening day of firearms season and I was out with my bow as usual. This morning I saw 4 different bucks between 8:30 and 9:30.
Thought I was going to get a shot at a nice 8 pt, but he wouldn't come all the way in. Had a small 6 at 18 yards while watching the 8. Very nice day except for the heat.
Good luck everybody

It sounds like some of us have had some luck. I just haven't been able to get them into bow range or get a shot if they do come in. 20 days with my widow in hand this month and not a deer drawn on.
I have decided I need to wear hunter orange to turkey hunt. They walked right in even when I stood up or moved with the orange on but let me blink an eye while in camo and they start putt-putt!:p
Congratulations to those who have had success!!!
Keep after em!

Sorry, but this is the only picture I have. It got dark and too far away from a working camera. It was two days after Christmas and a nice present since I passed up so many little does and spikes. He was a nice 10 pointer. Wandered in below me after a snow we just had. Hope it posts.
